One of the Zone's examples of mutated vegetation. Reacts to rapidly approaching living beings by discharging a cloud of projectiles severely injuring uncovered or lightly protected skin upon contact. Does not react to slowly moving targets. Forms three types of artifacts (possibly its seeds): Thorn, Crystal Thorn and Urchin.

Description

v1.30013 - 1.3003:
  • Seen hanging from various man-made structures throughout the Zone.
  • Relatively harmless to the player.
v1.4002+:
v1.4007:
  • Spawn set completely changed with the previous "rusty set" reassigned to Rusty Hair.

Notes

v1.30013 - 1.3003:
  • Despite encyclopedia claims concerning artifacts, in the Lost Alpha game space very few of these anomalies are scripted to be able to spawn the relevant artifacts, and only from the "zone_burning_fuzz_strong" (which never yields Urchin) or from "zone_burning_fuzz_bottom_(+strength)" only the strongest of which yield an occasional Urchin.
v1.4007:
  • Very difficult to obtain spawns from.

Trivia

  • In the Base Game, very few were actually injurious to the player, a notable case being one hanging from a crane in the Dark Valley factory.
